This page is a listing of other Websites & Servers that we feel are noteworthy enough to bring to your attention. If you would like to suggest an addition to this page, please feel free to let us know. If we feel that your suggestion is appropriate and relevent enough to be added, we shall do so. If we do not accept your link, please do not take any personal offense to it. We're just trying to prevent this page from taking a small eternity to load. Too many entries would make the load times very annoying. The sort of frustration that would make you want to claw your own face off and beat your computer with a sledge hammer.
Modded BBSes & Quality Echomail Networks
Whether it's the web interface, telnet interface or both -- we'd like to bring to your attention the sytems run by Sysop who have cared enough to give their setups some love and attention. Who decided to give enough of a crap to make using their systems a unique experience for their users. Non-Synchronet Systems are also welcome in this listing. Specialized Purpose Web Forums are also welcome in this listing (your not so typical web forum). The Echomail Networks we list are those that have gone above and beyond the call to also be original and unique. A Worthwhile addition to any Scene BBS (FTN / QWK) or Web Forum (newssync-phpbb / nntpsyndicate-smf)

As technology advances at a speedy pace, the hardware and software needed for your average Joe to create a quality film production is made more and more easily accessible. Star Trek: Hidden Frontier is a good example of this, in the form of Independent Fan Films.

These are the forums where you can boldly ask questions you never thought you'd be asking before..

For ameture productions, these guys really did a spectacular job. Very unique and creative content.

Masquerade BBS :: Ar7Scene

Synchronet / Win32

Masquerade BBS, based in Overland Park, KS. Everyone is welcome to revisit the "good ol' days" of online communities and social networking via our message networks, classic door games, and file sharing. We're just getting started around here so please pardon the dust.

The Masquerade is also accessible via telnet. You'll need a terminal program to telnet to the BBS. We recommend SyncTERM. SyncTERM is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and others. You can Download SyncTERM for Windows (As well as other Operating Systems) from our BBS Website. mTelnet, a console based terminal program for Windows, is also highly recommended. You can download that from our BBS main web page as well.

Masquerade BBS is yet another unique custom system which we feel is worthy of your time. The Sysop, Blakdeth, has put a lot of love, blood, sweat and tears into making his system the best it can be. All for you -- the users. So please make sure you check it out!

Malkavia BBS :: D3moScene

Synchronet / Linux

Malkavia BBS has been online since October 31st, 1994. Starting on dialup and moved to broadband in 2000. Time Warrior, the Sysop of Malkavia BBS, is the head of Xpresit Net & Syncdev, as well as the Author of the Cerberus Themes Set Mod, which happens to be what you're looking at right now. Seeing as Time Warrior created the defaults, his system is ironically left at "modded defaults". The themes are based on the Nightshade Theme created mostly by Runemaster at the suggestion and partial assistance of Time Warrior.

The ANSI / Telnet portion of Malkavia is made up of some PD Ansi but mostly ANSI Artwork that has been generously donated to him over the years by Talented Artscene Folks (Including but not limited to SinisterSilence, PAK and a short list of others), made specific for Malkavia -- most of which bares a Malkavia BBS Logo of some sort. His Telnet Theme is based upon the one which Ispyhumanfly made and Dribble edited. Since then, this theme continues to be modded further by Time Warrior, seeing as he has learned just enough BAJA to not be utterly useless -- but is by no means any sort of programmer nor scripting expert. Malkavia BBS also uses a modded version of Jas Hud's One Liners Utility.

The Malkavia BBS Server also runs Legal Music Search, Syncdev / Synchsupport, Legal Video Search, Pondscape, Linux For Windows, The Xpresit Echomail Network and The BBS Crawler Search Network.

Time Warrior has also been a Demoscene Musician since 1994 and has produced well over 100 songs. He's never joined a Music Group and has remained solo.

He started with Fasttracker ][, moved to SkaleTracker until development on it grinded to a hault and now mostly uses Modplug Tracker ala WINE under Ubuntu Linux.

Roughnecks BBS :: Ar7Scene

Roughnecks BBS is maintained by it's Sysop, Tracker1. This BBS is one of the oldest BBSes in the Scene as it stands today. Tracker1 is a programmer, with preferences towards the ASP.net language. He's created his own Synchweb Interface in ASP.net and it looks pretty sweet. Though some of it is not functional, most of it is. Besides web design, he is also a very talented ANSI Artist within the Artscene.

Both his Telnet and Web Interfaces are completely custom modded in every way by Tracker1. It is one of the most impressive systems in the BBS Scene to date.

Tracker1 has an extensive BBS Mods Archive and is also the Author of the S3 Telnet shell, which includes extensive customizations for the New User Application, S3 Lightbar Message Read Prompt, SBBS Check and Telnet Email Validator. You can download these and other things from here.

Tracker1 also runs BBSing.info, a resource site for utilities, games, softwares as well as terms, history, documentation and general Scene Knowledgebase. He also maintains a "Modded BBSes Listing" of his own which can be found at the bottom of his website. We're going to exclude most of those BBSes from our list so that you're forced to goto his BBS to obtain them :-)

Dove-Net (DOmain-VErtrauen Network) is the Official Echomail Network for Synchronet BBS Software. Development began in 1990 for MS-DOS based computers. Sold commercially from 1992-1996, then released as open source & development ceased. In November of 1999, the author found renewed interest in further developing Synchronet for the Internet community, embracing & integrating standard protocols such as Telnet, FTP, SMTP, POP3, IRC, NNTP, & HTTP. Substantially redesigned as an Internet-only BBS package for many platforms & is under continuous development.

There is no official nor unofficial website for DoveNet. It is Pre-Installed within the Synchronet BBS Software (though it is not impossible nor uncommon for Non-Synchronet Systems to also hook up to it).

Though it is a great technical resource, it is larely unmoderated. So if anyone happens to attack you for no apparent reason, just ignore them and they will typically go away. Don't allow a small handful of idiots keep you from utilizing a valuable knowledgebase resource.

Unofficial Website: http://echomail.bbscrawler.com/dovenet/
Xpresit Net started in 1994 out of the dislike of the Fidonet Beaurocracy by Time Warrior & The Third Rail, as a Free Speech Network. Always having been a true BBS Scene Community in every respect, people forgeing long lasting friendships not only online & on the phone, but also in person. A place where age, race, gender, religion nor any of the typical excuses to hate people are of any concern. Xpresit Net also has Annual "in person" Gatherings (pictures & video and even a Cafepress Shop) where atendees have come from not only around the country, but from around the globe.

If you are looking for a place with high message traffic and a ton of members, then Xpresit is not going to be what you're looking for. Xpresit prioritizes on quality rather than quantity. So if you're looking to make friends, learn, do research and obtain knowledge -- and would prefer to do so in a group as opposed to a large mob -- and in an environment where you won't be chastized for having a different opinion, nor reprimanded if you just so happen to slip out a profane word or two, then Xpresit is going to be the right place for you. It's not everyone's cup of tea.

Xpresit is just as insane and sarcastic as it is professional and helpful. Only open minds may safely enter here.

This website is your one stop shop to tons of other Echomail Networks, BBS Lists, Files, Utilities and lots more! So, if your Echonet or BBS doesn't make it to our list then make sure you get it on this list and you'll be listed by proxy! :-)

Though in our opinion the interface could use some improvements / tweaking (they use some sort of Content Management System, either e107, phpnuke or something similar -- we're not really sure which one), this website has a vast knowledgebase of resources to help you improve upon your BBS! So, we highly reccomend you stop by and check out this site.

BBS Crawler Textfiles Search Powered In Part By:
Old School Text Files, Jokes, BBS and Internet History, Research, Documents, ANSI, ASCII and more! Powered by Textfiles.com and Google Custom Search.

Textfiles.com: On the face of things, we seem to be merely talking about text-based files, containing only the letters of the English Alphabet (and the occasional punctuation mark).

On deeper inspection, of course, this isn't quite the case. What this site offers is a glimpse into the history of writers and artists bound by the 128 characters that the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) allowed them. The focus is on mid-1980's textfiles and the world as it was then, but even these files are sometime retooled 1960s and 1970s works, and offshoots of this culture exist to this day.

BBS Crawler: For less things that are worth more, instead of more things that are worthless! Welcome to the Suburbs of the Internet. The things they don't want you to know about. The places where the magic happens.
